Dr Naresh Trehan

Dr. Naresh Trehan, an Indian national, is a renowned Cardiovascular and Cardiothoracic surgeon, a graduate from King George Medical College and subsequently trained and practiced at New York University Medical Center Manhattan USA, where he obtained a Diplomat from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery. Dr Naresh Trehan is the Chairman & Managing Director, MedantaTM-The MediCity, a 1500 bedded multi super speciality institute, which offers cutting edge technology and state of art treatment facilities at an affordable cost. The Institute is governed under the guiding principles of providing medical services to patients with care, compassion and commitment. Dr. Naresh Trehan founded the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre where he was the Executive Director. Escorts was conceptualised, created and managed by Dr. Trehan from November 1987 to May 2007.

Dr. Naresh Trehan has received many prestigious awards, including the Padma Shree and the Padma Bhushan Award, presented by the Government of India.

Dr Naresh Trehan was the President of the International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (ISMICS), Minneapolis, USA 2004-05 and has also received Honorary Doctorate Degrees from three prestigious universities.

Dr. R. R. Kasliwal, MD, DM (Cardiology), with over 3 decades of experience in Clinical Cardiology, teaching and research, is one of the most renowned names in the field of Cardiology in this region. A Dr. B. C. Roy National awardee, Dr Kasliwal is presently the Chairman, Clinical & Preventive Cardiology as well as the Community Outreach Program at Medanta-the-Medicity. He is also the Program Director for the Diplomate National Board in Cardiology, Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology, and the Fellowship in Non-invasive Cardiology at Medanta. In addition, Dr Kasliwal is also the President of the Indian Academy of Echocardiography.

Dr Kasliwal’s personality is truly multifaceted- his list of honors with more than 150 prestigious awards is testimony to this. He is a clinician, academician and teacher par excellence. He has delivered hundreds of invited guest lectures; has more than two hundred publications in peer-reviewed, scientific journals and has guest edited several books in Cardiology. He is also on the editorial board of numerous journals and is himself the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical and Preventive Cardiology.

Teaching has been Dr Kasliwal’s passion. He has been instrumental in introducing numerous teaching courses in Cardiology and has mentored more than hundred cardiologists over the past two decades.

Dr Kasliwal’s greatest contribution, however, has been in the field of clinical Cardiology. He has pioneered the development of the techniques for early detection and prevention of cardiovascular disease- a disease which affects at least one in every ten people in the subcontinent and is the largest killer of mankind in this part of the world. At the same time, he also championed the cause of the underprivileged by introducing the concept of Community Outreach- a vehicle for taking the specialized cardiac care to the person’s door step. Hundreds of thousands of patients have been benefited by the Community Outreach Program under his leadership.

Medicine and education have actually been in Dr Kasliwal’s heritage. His father (Late) Prof. Col. R. M. Kasliwal was a freedom fighter and personal physician to Netaji Subhash Chander Bose and served in the famous Indian National Army. He was Principal at the SMS Medical College Jaipur; Dean Faculty of Medicine at Rajasthan University and President of the Association of Physicians of India (1961 – 1962). He was also a recipient of the prestigious Dr. B. C. Roy National award.
