Ravi R. Kasliwal

Dr. R. R. Kasliwal, MD, DM (Cardiology), with over 3 decades of experience in Clinical Cardiology, teaching and research, is one of the most renowned names in the field of Cardiology in this region. A Dr. B. C. Roy National awardee, Dr Kasliwal is presently the Chairman, Clinical & Preventive Cardiology as well as the Community Outreach Program at Medanta-the-Medicity. He is also the Program Director for the Diplomate National Board in Cardiology, Post-graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology, and the Fellowship in Non-invasive Cardiology at Medanta. In addition, Dr Kasliwal is also the President of the Indian Academy of Echocardiography.

Dr Kasliwal’s personality is truly multifaceted- his list of honors with more than 150 prestigious awards is testimony to this. He is a clinician, academician and teacher par excellence. He has delivered hundreds of invited guest lectures; has more than two hundred publications in peer-reviewed, scientific journals and has guest edited several books in Cardiology. He is also on the editorial board of numerous journals and is himself the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical and Preventive Cardiology.

Teaching has been Dr Kasliwal’s passion. He has been instrumental in introducing numerous teaching courses in Cardiology and has mentored more than hundred cardiologists over the past two decades.

Dr Kasliwal’s greatest contribution, however, has been in the field of clinical Cardiology. He has pioneered the development of the techniques for early detection and prevention of cardiovascular disease- a disease which affects at least one in every ten people in the subcontinent and is the largest killer of mankind in this part of the world. At the same time, he also championed the cause of the underprivileged by introducing the concept of Community Outreach- a vehicle for taking the specialized cardiac care to the person’s door step. Hundreds of thousands of patients have been benefited by the Community Outreach Program under his leadership.

Medicine and education have actually been in Dr Kasliwal’s heritage. His father (Late) Prof. Col. R. M. Kasliwal was a freedom fighter and personal physician to Netaji Subhash Chander Bose and served in the famous Indian National Army. He was Principal at the SMS Medical College Jaipur; Dean Faculty of Medicine at Rajasthan University and President of the Association of Physicians of India (1961 – 1962). He was also a recipient of the prestigious Dr. B. C. Roy National award.

Dr. Rajeev Gupta has been a leader in epidemiological research in India for many years. He is currently Senior Consultant & HOD Internal Medicine Clinical Director Academics & Research Department of Internal Medicine at Fortis Hospital, Jaipur.

His pioneering cardiovascular epidemiological studies attracted attention of many Indian and international investigators. The Indian Council of Medical Research conferred his team a national award in 1997. He is involved with various Scientific Researches like Epidemiological Research, Genetics and Stem-cell based Research.

He has been involved in many multisite clinical and epidemiological studies such as Women’s Health Project (AIIMS, Delhi), DEMAT Study (AIIMS), POLYCAP Study (St. John’s). He is associated with various committees such as ICMR, DST and MOH and multiple ethics committees.

He collaborates extensively with the University of Rajasthan (Departments of Statistics, Home Science, Botany and Zoology) and more than a dozen students have completed their PhD thesis under his guidance. His previous assignment was as Consultant Physician-Medicine and Preventive Cardiology K D Gupta Medical Centre Jaipur, HOD Medicine & Cardiology and Director Research, Monilek Hospital and Research Centre Jaipur; Professor of Medicine, Mahatma Gandhi National Institute of Medical Sciences Jaipur.

Dr. Gupta has also been publishing a quarterly journal, South Asian Journal of Preventive Cardiology, for the last one decade.

Dr. Bansal is presently a Senior Consultant in Cardiology at one of the leading healthcare institutes in India- “Medanta- The Medicity”. He has had an illustrious academic background and has received his medical training from premier institutes in India and abroad- MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College with Gold-Medals in several subjects, MD Medicine from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, DNB in Cardiology with Gold-Medal from Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre and finally, advanced training in Cardiac Imaging for a year under the supervision of Prof Thomas Marwick at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.

In addition to clinical cardiology, Dr Bansal has keen interest in academics and research also. He has a number of publications in various national and international journals, is peer-reviewer for leading scientific journals and is on the Editorial Board of the Indian Heart Journal, Journal of Indian Academy of Echocardiography, etc.

He has been a mentor for students undergoing training in Cardiology and Echocardiography at Medanta- The Medicity and has been invited as faculty in various national and international meetings.

Dr. Abraham Oomman is a renowned Interventional Cardiologist at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, India and involved extensively in various international clinical studies.

In recognition of his level of excellence achieved in Medical Sciences, he is listed in Marquis Who’s Who and in Cambridge Blue Book. Dr. Sameer Dani is one of the leading Interventional Cardiologists in India, having performed over 35,000 interventional procedures. He is also a passionate teacher and researcher, regularly teaching postgraduate medical students.

He is currently the Medical Director of Lifecare Institute of Medical Sciences & Research in Ahmedabad. He is also Head of Cardiology at Apollo Hospital, Ahmedabad. Prior to Lifecare, he was Professor and Head of Department of Cardiology at the U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology. He continues to teach at the institute.
